The year it all started! 2019, was totally volunteer lead and prior to becoming a CIC. It was an incredible start as an independent arts space working with the community in Birkenhead and wider Liverpool arts scene. Running exhibitions, workshops, getting our first funding pot and starting a number of collaborations we have cherished since. Read more about the 2019 programme below.

A 6 week project, with the opportunity to run some activity from a market stall in Birkenhead Market.

Open Call #1

Our first exhibition featured 8 artists who had expressed an interest in working with Convenience from across europe. This featured local artists like Ollie C, Nick Beedles and Alex Lloyd alongside artists working further a field like Charlotte Harmsworth, Lilit Stepanyan and Charmaine de Heij.

TV Babies (Bink, Jenny & Charlotte)

For their Convenience Gallery show, their installation turned our Market unit into an immersive projection space. With 4 films playing in the round.

Joie de Vivre by Joana de Oliveira Guerreiro

Joana's solo show was an exhibition of as yet unseen paintings. The work explored personal and social narratives.

Burst Our Bubble

With ten artists, and a variety of practices they came together to produce a great Multi venue exhibit. We worked alongside the artists to deliver an exhibit of new and existing work over 3 gallery spaces. Where we facilitated the use of John Hyatt's Dark Side Art Lab, alongside Convenience.

Dinu Li, Anatomy of Place
