Joie de Vivre by Joana de Oliveira Guerreiro
30.08.19 - 14.09.19, Birkenhead Market
Joana's solo show was an exhibition of as yet unseen paintings. The work explored personal and social narratives. The accompanying text was her poem Joie de Vivre.
"I was sipping on an orange juice,
Skipping having to eat goose,
It was hard to be left loose,
Thinking about the ones who have nothing,
But the freedom to fly,
While i was the fruit of desire,
Living in anguish to make my own fire,
I’ve been swimming in plastic,
Writing about how that is fantastic,
Crying tears from my fingers,
Not seeing any other way,
Shadows fell upon me,
Like a horse with a broken leg,
Thought space was the only place,
Where i could hear the sound of joy,
But my soul turned around and took another trip,
Sitting on the wind’s wings,
Because love and life interested me so,
I dared to knock at the door of the cosmos."
