Wirral MET Mapping

Wirral Met College are very pleased to announce a new collaboration with Convenience Gallery, for the launch of The Town is The Gallery series of arts programming for 2024.

Convenience Gallery are a mobile arts space based in Birkenhead, the organisation has hosted arts events, exhibitions and runs the Birkenhead International Film Festival, hosted in 2023 at The Williamson Art Gallery.

Mapping their Journey.

Students were asked to explore their relation to the surrounding of Hamilton Square and Wirral and make their own response through drawings and map making.

The exhibition will open on Friday 22nd of March and showcase the work of 1st year students from the Illustration with Animation course at Wirral Met.
We are really excited to showcase students' illustrated maps and are especially pleased that students on the Illustration course have undertaken a Live Brief working for a real client so early in the course.

Current student Beau Thompson said: “I chose to illustrate the amazing CIC’s and arts charities that are around Hamilton Square, some people might not know these places are available to them. And I wanted to create a resource for people looking for support and community as well.”

Liam Adamson who has made a Folklore Map of Merseyside said: “This has been a great opportunity especially for me, I've enjoyed learning and sharing unusual tales from where I live.

Alongside student work, Wirral Met will also be including creative maps by made by members of Tomorrows Women, who are producing their own visual interpretation, telling a story about their personal journeys, through the art of mapping!
