Reportage Illustration & Mapping Project

Level 4 students from the BA (Hons) Illustration with

Animation course at Wirral Met College

The Town is the Gallery, Convenience Pop Up @ Former M&S

Reportage illustration is the art of capturing live events through drawing.

Students were tasked to sketch in various locations around Birkenhead and Liverpool, capturing the small moments of real life, sights and sounds that might go unnoticed. From the train station to the car park, these drawings are snapshots of real moments representing a sense of place.

The project culminated in a live brief in collaboration with Convenience Gallery, to design their own interpretations of the local area around Hamilton Square in the form of a large scale map.

This display also includes 35mm photographs captured on disposable cameras, which were used as a way to collect reference imagery for the project. These images also show the students view of Hamilton Square and how they experience their surroundings.

Artists featured are: Beau Thompson, Anne Fryer, Oksana Cherepashchuk, Nat Lewis, Arthur Peel, Liam Adamson.

Exhibition has been documented by Benjamin Nuttall.
