Horizons Painting Project

Horizons introduces young aspiring artists to new skills and ways of thinking. Throughout our 3rd horizons programme there was an emphasis on exploration, experimentation, fun and play.

Over 8 sessions Convenience Gallery worked with 4 professional artists and a cohort of young people aged 14-18. The aims within the project were to explore large scale painting and mural techniques and styles. The end outcome of this programme was for each participant to create their own large scale painting and public artwork. Inspired by street art, murals, and experimental painting.

Participants had the opportunity to learn from professional artists and exhibit their work at the end of the project. The artists who supported the programme and delivered incredible technical and inspirational sessions were Georgemma Hunt, Jason Hollis, Millie Toyin Olateju & Andy Wolfenden. Each artist was a professional large-scale painting with a range of skill and experiences form graffiti, street art, large scale canvas, mural and technical painting.

Around 14 young people took part in the programme each completing their own individual large scale works which were exhibited with family and friends invited to view the final creations. It was truly inspiring to see a group of young people complete large scale and personally developed work for the the starting point to the end of this programme.

This programme was developed in response to young people feedback from previous Horizons projects and proved wildly inspiring for everyone involved.

The project was conceptulised, developed and delivered by Convenience Gallery.

Convenience work with Open Door Charity members and wider public to deliver sessions.
