We’ve decided to dust off the newsletter cobwebs and tell you all about the exciting month ahead we have planned. This months highlights will be without a doubt, Jon Edgley’s’ On The Brightside, monthly life drawing and the launch of our digital commission. We also wanted to reflect on our In Cahoots programme launch, horizons exhibition and some other really positive moments across July - including a bit of writing about us in the Guardian!

First things first its the launch of Jon Edgley’s ‘On the Bright Side’ exhibition on the 13th August and you’re invited! The evening starts at 6:30pm, the bar will be open with tunes playing till late. But if you can’t make the opening it’ll be open to see until the 27th August!

What’s it about?
Exploring and questioning the concept of positivity in the 21st century and its application in our lives. “On the Bright Side” is an interactive snapshot of the positivity spectrum, its use and understanding. From its sincere side of love, connection and support to its more troublesome side of denial and overgeneralisation.

  • What is positivity?
  • How is it used?
  • How do we use it?
  • And when should we use it?

The answer to life isn’t always: live, laugh, love.

We have created the digital commission opportunities in line with the rise of prominence of digital technology, online and interactive art formats within our local and the wider arts community both during and prior to the Covid-19 period. We understand the need for art to transcend physical space and be placed in the widely accessible digital landscape. We want to provide more space, support and opportunities in this growing field. This commission is designed to support artists to develop their work for or in digital formats with a focus on practitioner who's work sits specifically within digital mediums . We are excited by the potential this project has to support an artist to progress their work, create a high quality outcome or venture into new mediums or processes.
