The Town is the Gallery Programme

Launching on 22nd March 2024, TTITG is a project that was nearly 18 months in the making. With artists first submitting proposals for the project in December 2022.

Convenience had worked with support from the DBACE award 2022 and MEWE 360 to develop a business plan and from this came the Town is the Gallery, a streamlining of the most impactful work we had been delivering culturally and for the community.

The programme went public in March 2024, with support from Wirral Council providing financial support for the programme, Kindreds continued support for Convenience & East Street Arts, and the teams and Birkenhead Library and Priory/Williamson supporting the launch of the programme.

Here is a copy of the A3 programme for the festival.

The first phase of this programme included works from: Elisa Sallis & Ella Matthews, Sorrel Kerrison, Leo Fitzmaurice, Kate Bigley, Karema Munassar, Camille Smithwick, Mia Cathcart and further 60 artists in the Towns is the Gallery Open

The work was featured across 3 sites. 1. A disused retail unit, 2. Birkenhead Priory and 3. Birkenhead Central Library.

All artists for solo exhibits were provided with full budgets to create new work for this programme with formed one of the key aspects of the Wirral Borough of Culture.
